DOUGLAS COUNTY, NV - The Topaz Ranch Estates fire is now fully contained.
Fire officials say cool weather and rain helped them dig a line around the full fire area Saturday. Most firefighters have been released, with a handful staying to control any remaining hot spots and begin restoration. Also Saturday, a flyover revealed the final acreage burned is 7152, downgraded from an estimated 7500.
Two homes were destroyed in this fire and 17 other structures damaged or destroyed since Tuesday. There were no reports of injuries.
Fire investigators believe the cause of the fire was an "open residential burn" last weekend that exceeded regulations and permit requirements.
