SPARKS, NV - One of the hardest things that Sparks resident Grant Korgan has ever had to do will begin in two weeks when he joins a team of six on the 'South Pole Push.'

"To see someone go to the most inhospitable place on the planet where it's -50 degrees and exist for over two weeks and while doing that, cross country ski 100 miles to the south pole, that's quite a powerful message," says Grant Korgan.

Grant didn't think any challenge could top what happened to him on Mar. 5th, 2010. While snowmobiling in the Sierra backcountry, he overshot a jump and suffered a serious spinal injury. Doctors said he'd never walk again.

"When I laid in the hospital bed and I heard the prognosis, I wondered. You think about it 'would if' but that 'would if' only stood to fuel my fire."

Grant is making his recovery here at Renown Medical Center. At the beginning, he couldn't feel anything below his belly button. Less than two years later, he's got feeling down to his knees.

"I believe it's going all the way to my toes, and I'm going to make that happen and I won't stop until i'm twinkling those twinkle toes," says Grant Korgan.

While the Renown staff helps Grant get back on his feet, his wife Shawna has been there every step of the way.

"To get to be of service to another human being is i think one of the greatest gifts that i could've ever been given," Shawna Korgan.
