Tweak Your Resume to Improve Odds
Be Targeted for Better Response As more and more unemployed workers apply for a limited number of jobs, experts say it's your resume that may keep you out of the running. They say you only have 10 to 15 seconds to grab their attention and changing your resume slightly to target a specific job may be the edge you need to get hired.

As more and more unemployed workers apply for a limited number of jobs, experts say it's your resume that may keep you out of the running. They say you only have 10 to 15 seconds to grab their attention and changing your resume slightly to target a specific job may be the edge you need to get hired.
Career counselors from TMCC and UNR say being specific will help grab a recruiter's attention.
They advise thinking about the type of job you want to get, then list all the skills and experience you have as it relates to that position. That means doing a little homework and possibly making more than one version of your resume.
In addition, experts say people who are changing careers or who have gaps in their work history, should consider using a Functional resume over the more popular Chronological style. Resumes can be one to two pages in length. References should be kept on a separate page.
