Welcome to It's Not Just Politics, intelligent discussions of political and public policy issues of the day. Each week we will a take a look at the big political stories of the week. Hopefully no shouting, no yelling, just intelligent discourse. Ed Pearce was born and raised in a rural part of our state, a member of a pioneer Nevada family. He gained his first media experience as a teenager working for his hometown newspaper, the Fallon Citizen, and his family's radio station KVLV in Fallon. His first television job came during his senior year at the University of Nevada, Reno as a reporter and anchor for News Channel 8. In November of 1970, he was named news director and anchor for Reno's KTVN-TV. He held that position until 1984 when he left journalism to join the Nugget as director of community affairs. In 1988, he returned to the work he loves, broadcast journalism, and the station where he began, News Channel 8. Ed stepped down from anchoring the 11:00 p.m. news in 1997 to focus all his efforts on being News Channel 8 Senior News Correspondent. But, that has not kept him away from the camera and anchor desk. In 1997 and 1998, Ed did the unimaginable. He broadcasted live from underwater at Lake Tahoe to report on the diminishing clarity of the lake. These reports have brought a completely new definition to the capabilities of live television. Ed remains News Channel 8's Senior Correspondent. When he is not reporting the news, speaking with viewers or handling the daily routine of the newsroom, Ed enjoys scuba diving, adventure travel and vintage sports cars.
