Movies You Should See At Least Once : "Spoorloos" (aka "The Vanishing")

Updated: 11/05/2009 - Ever since “The Sixth Sense” graced the screen ten years ago, the idea of the surprise ending has become somewhat of a joke; the lengths some filmmakers have gone to in order to give a film a “twist” ending have become ridiculous. Tim Burtons attempt at giving his remake of “Planet of the Apes” a revised shock ending was so bad that it eventually went down as one of the biggest blunders in film history. However, there was a time when films had endings so startling, so surprising and yet so perfectly logical that they were actually able to stun and astonish a viewer, leaving them clamoring for more… or at least wanting to start the movie over and re-watch it in order to catch what they may have missed that lead up to such a shocking resolution. The film I’m going to tell you about is one of those movies.
