RENO, NV - April 24th, 2013 -- RC Willey will host a Playhouse Build-a-Thon where volunteer teams will compete in building five playhouses that will be raffled off in an effort to raise donations and awareness for the Truckee Meadows Habitat for Humanity in the parking lot of its Reno store on Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
This fun, family Playhouse Build-a-Thon is free to the public and anyone who donates will receive a free hot dog and drink. The public will also have the chance to cast their vote for the best playhouse and purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the newly built playhouses.
The day-long event will include live and local music from 10:45 a.m. to 7 p.m., local food trucks from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and RC Willey giveaways throughout the day. Lowes Home Center is also taking part in the event, and will have numerous activities and building experiences for families.
In addition to hosting the event, RC Willey has purchased one playhouse to auction off in hopes of raising additional money to help build homes for low income families in Washoe County.
"RC Willey is very excited to have an opportunity to partner with Habitat for Humanity and give back to the local families in need," said Tom Willardson, Reno RC Willey store manager. "We invite the public to come down and help raise money for an organization that truly makes an impact on our entire community."
Truckee Meadows Habitat for Humanity has been in operation locally since 1991 and has built 30 homes for local low-income families. "We are excited to give the local community a hands-on experience that will then help families get into a home of their own." states Christine Price, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity.
