Wreaths Across America in Fernley

FERNLEY, Nev. -- Volunteers spent part of Saturday laying wreaths on the graves of fallen Nevada veterans.

The wreath-laying was sponsored by the Northern Nevada Veterans Coalition. Each year the group organizes the "Wreaths Across America" at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

There were more than 1,600 wreaths placed on headstones this year. The large number was made possible through fundraising efforts totaling over $16,000.

Coalition leaders say the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley is the only veterans cemetery in northern Nevada and encourages everyone to get involved. They say, "We have well over 7,000 vets and spouses out here and they do need to be remembered."
