RENO, NV - The woman who died following an apartment fire Friday evening has been identified.
Reno Fire investigators say the fire happened around 5:30 p.m. at 695 East Patriot Boulevard in Reno.
When fire crews arrived, they found smoke coming from one unit on the first floor of the two-story wood frame apartment building. Crews forced entry into the apartment, put out the fire and found an unconscious woman on the floor. They performed CPR, but 52-year-old Danette Rice died.
She had third-degree burns to 40 percent of her body, but the exact cause of death is under investigation pending the results of a coroner's autopsy.
The cause of the fire was carelessly discarded cigarettes, according to investigators.
