Abandoned Campfire Leads to Brush Fire Near Verdi

RENO, NV - Fire investigators say an abandoned campfire led to a brush fire that burned about two acres early Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out shortly before 4AM near Gold Ranch, just over the California border on the California side. There is no established campsite there, and if the person who left the campfire is found, he or she could be criminally charged.

No one was hurt and no structures were damaged, but wind in the area was cause for concern for a while. The fire was contained about an hour after it started.
