SPARKS, NV - The Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade and lighting of the Sparks Christmas tree are being postponed this year because of weather concerns.
The National Weather Service is predicting heavy wind, snow and possible extreme flooding for east Sparks beginning Sunday, according to Sparks spokesman Adam Mayberry. The city is offering sandbags to residents and businesses; a list of eleven pickup locations is on cityofsparks.us.
The city encourages all businesses to take steps to prevent possible flooding to their properties. A map of all 11 sandbag locations is posted on the city’s website, or call 775.353.5555.
The Victorian RV Park has space available for other Reno/Sparks RV residents who may need to relocate temporarily due to the potential flooding of the Truckee River. It's at 205 Nichols Avenue, just east of Victorian Avenue.
Because of these weather concerns, the annual parade is now scheduled for Saturday, December 8th, with the Christmas tree lighting scheduled for Friday, December 7th.
