RENO, NV - A Reno mother was arrested for child neglect after hospital officials treated the 4-month-old baby Sunday for malnourishment.
Washoe County Patrol Deputies were dispatched to Renown Regional Medical Center on a report of a malnourished child. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that the child was extremely malnourished and failing to thrive and was being treated for his condition.
Deputies contacted the child's relative who had brought the child into the hospital after the mother, Shauna Malo, had requested that the relative care for the child due to the fact the law enforcement was looking for her husband, Myles Malo, on an unrelated issue.
While Deputies were talking to the relative of the child, Malo arrived at the hospital and gave inconsistent information regarding the baby's condition and was taken into custody for the neglect.
The Sheriff's Office is working in conjunction with Child Protective Services. At this time we are asking for public assistance in locating the father of the injured child. Deputies are requesting anyone with information pertaining to this case to contact their office at 328-3320 or remain anonymous by calling Secret Witness at 322-4900.
