RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Nevada state trooper and a Washoe County undersheriff will face off in November's general election in a bid to become the county's next sheriff.

Trooper Chuck Allen and Undersheriff Tim Kuzanek were the top finishers in Tuesday night's primary in the race to succeed Sheriff Mike Haley, who opted out of seeking a third term.

Allen won 46 percent of the vote and Kuzanek 28 percent. Next was retired Washoe sheriff's deputy Jim Lopey with 15 percent.

Sheriff Haley endorsed Kuzanek.

Allen is known as the face of the Nevada Highway Patrol after serving as its public information officer the last 10 years.
