Washoe School District Kicks Off Countdown to Graduation

By  |

RENO, NV – Seventeen of the Washoe County School District’s (WCSD) most inspiring graduates are the focus of the 2014 “Countdown to Graduation” campaign, which begins Thursday, May 15 with the unveiling of the Countdown to Graduation video. Profiles of the graduates will be posted each day on the WCSD website through Friday, June 6.

The Countdown graduates, who were nominated by their counselors and principals, have excelled in the classroom and the community. In many cases, they have overcome challenges and obstacles—including the loss of family members and medical issues—to achieve their dreams of graduating from high school and enrolling in college.

“I look forward to this celebration each year because it is the culmination of all of our efforts to help our students succeed academically,” said Superintendent Pedro Martinez. “We are dedicated to preparing them for college and highly-skilled careers, and I’m proud that so many of our students are achieving this goal.”
“The Countdown to Graduation is a tribute to the hard work of students, staff members, and families across the District,” said WCSD Board of Trustees President Barbara Clark. “The Board of Trustees is so proud of all of our graduates, and we look forward to seeing these students and their classmates walk across the graduation stage next month.”
