RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County District Judge Steven Elliott has announced his plans to retire after 16 years on the bench.
Elliott was the Sparks city attorney for 18 years before winning a seat on the district court in Reno. He founded the Washoe County Domestic Violence Task Force and served on the Statewide Court Security Task Force to improve security for judges and the public at courthouses throughout Nevada.
Elliott plans to step down on March 12.
The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection will accept applications from qualified attorneys to replace him through Jan. 11. Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Cherry says it's open to all Nevada attorneys with 10 years of legal experience, at least two of those in Nevada.
