Statement: "The Washoe County Republican Party would like to make it abundantly clear that the guest that made the controversial statement last Thursday on Coversations from the Capital radio program is not affliated with the WCRP in any way nor does he live in the Washoe County."
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The chairman of the Washoe County Republican Party says he's disappointed Gov. Brian Sandoval pulled out of a fundraising appearance because of remarks made on a conservative radio show.
Tom Taber says he was notified through Sandoval's campaign that he will not attend the Nov. 18 event in which Sandoval was to give the keynote address.
During a radio show last week, Taber and others participated in a discussion with local conservatives about women in the workplace. The panel talked about the biological role of women as bearers and nurturers of children.
One participant, Len Semas, suggested women who leave their household roles to pursue careers have led to social ills including learning disabilities and delinquency.
Taber says the Washoe GOP supports women and encourages them to be politically involved.
