RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County Manager Katy Simon has announced plans to retire this summer after 15 years on the job.

The 60-year-old Simon says she's recommending Assistant County Manager John Berkich serve as interim county manager when she steps down on June 28.

Reno Mayor Bob Cashell says Simon did a great job and was always very professional whether they agreed or disagreed.

Simon started working for the county in 1978 as a budget analyst and eventually became the associated executive director of Washoe Health System before she opened her own private consulting business in 1990.

She says she's considering a number of offers for consulting job and may teach at the University of Southern California.
