RENO, NV - The Cybercrime Unit of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office has arrested 46-year-old Brett Adam Doyle of Reno, on charges of Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of 14 and unlawful use a minor in producing pornography.

Doyle was initially arrested on Saturday, August 9, 2014 for Lewdness with a Child Under 14 and Child Abuse/Neglect. Through the use of computer forensics, Sheriff’s Office Detectives with the Northern Nevada Cyber Center recovered homemade videos and images of child pornography, including video footage of an assault. This material was intentionally deleted or hidden deep inside the computer.

At this time, the WCSO has no indication of additional victims. All charges are related to incidents involving a single victim that took place earlier this year at an undisclosed location in Washoe County.

Computer forensics and digital evidence recovery was the key to solving not only this case, but also another similar case just weeks ago involving 54-year-old Craig Blodgett of Spanish Springs.

“Through good old fashion police work, diligence, and digital evidence recovery, Detectives are often able to solve cases which previously may never have been able to be successfully prosecuted.” Washoe County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Dennis Carry said.

“The tragic victimization in these cases and successful closure with the assistance of computer forensics highlight the necessity of law enforcement in our region to dedicate full time resources to prevent, investigate, and combat cybercrime,” Washoe County Undersheriff Tim Kuzanek said. “Computer forensics is an important tool in our efforts to bring justice to victims.”

The Northern Nevada Cyber Center was created at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to dedicate full time investigators to cybercrime investigations. These investigators have received extensive training in digital evidence recovery and cybercrime investigations. These investigators work side by side with other detectives and partners from federal, state, and local agencies for one simple mission, protecting the public by solving crime.

The Northern Nevada Cyber Center investigates technological crimes involving fraud, child exploitation, computer intrusion, and assists with all other types of crimes when digital evidence such as computers or cellular phones need to be examined.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at (775) 328-3320 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
