CARSON CITY, NV - The Carson City Sheriff's Office has identified the women found shot to death in Voltaire Canyon Thursday morning.

The families of 20-year-old Monique Evans and 24-year-old Sandra Leggett have been told.

Carson Sheriff Kenny Furlong says both women were killed by close-contact single gunshot wounds to the temple.

There were no indications of a struggle and no notes or other evidence of suicide, but deputies are not looking for a third person. A .38 caliber revolver was found near the bodies, which were discovered by a hiker walking his dog.

Records on file at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office disclosed there was an arrest warrant for Evans for failure to comply with counseling and to provide proof of community service directed by the Carson City Courts for previous drug charges.

Leggett had a history of drug charges.

The Sheriff’s Office Investigation Unit continues to believe the two women were alone on the hillside all Wednesday night, and they likely died late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Deputies are still investigating. Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts or activities of Evans or Leggett during the period prior to their deaths is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 887-2500 or Secret Witness if you wish to remain anonymous.
