GARDNERVILLE, NV - We now have the name of a Carson City resident killed Monday night in a two-car crash just south of Gardnerville.
The victim was 31-year-old Jaron W. Malone of Carson City. The female passenger in Malone's blue 1994 Ford Contour 4-door is 21-year-old Tianne F. Sam of Topaz Lodge. She was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center shortly after the collision, and was treated and released early Tuesday.
The accident happened around 10 p.m. Monday near the intersection of US 395 and Riverview Drive, just south of Gardnerville.
NHP tells us Malone was pulling out from the driveway of the 7-Eleven near Riverview Drive and 395 and failed to yield to a white 2006 Mercury Mountaineer SUV traveling south on 395.
As Malone attempted to cross the southbound lane, the left side of his sedan was struck by the front of the Mountaineer, driven by Jeremy T. Reineman from Coleville, California.
Reineman was traveling with his wife Jessica and their three young children. Jeremy and Jessica received only minor injuries; the children were not injured.
Investigators believe alcohol impaired the driving abilities of Mr Malone.
The accident resulted in a temporary blocking of two travel lanes. All travel lanes were completely re-opened shortly after midnight.
