RENO, Nev.- Libertarian Party Vice Presidential candidate Jim Gray joined students and faculty at UNR for the Wednesday Presidential Debates. Gray is running with former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson and says it’s not fair the two aren’t allowed to participate in the debate series.
“In fact, the people are beginning to really see and get incensed about what’s happened with the Presidential Debates Commission,” Gray said. “We have Republicans and Democrats that have gotten together brilliantly to freeze out other voices. We’re going to be on the ballots in at least 47 states and the District of Columbia and Governor Gary Johnson should be in these Presidential debates and I can’t wait to debate against Joe Biden”
He says they’re willing to bring a lawsuit to secure a place in upcoming debates.
“Governor Johnson must be in these debates,” Gray said. “The people of the United States need to see what we’d do. We’d put in a coalition government, yes of Independents and Libertarians, but also Republicans and Democrats. We will have a team working for the American people instead of their selfish interests.”
Judge Gray currently presides over the civil trial calendar for the Superior Court of Orange County, California.
“This is the most exciting thing that’s happened to me since the birth of my children,” Gray said. “Our country will crave what Governor Johnson has done and I’m proud and excited to be his running mate. He has no ego, he will get the right information and act on it for all of us. Regardless of your political persuasion he’s the right guy. I wouldn’t do this as a running mate for just anybody. He is the most qualified person to be President that I know of and he has courage, energy, vision and results.”
So why haven’t a lot of voters heard of him?
“I hadn’t heard of him until 1999 when he held a press conference and said the War on Drugs is not working,” Gray said. “It took a great deal of courage and I actually made the same comment before so I got to know him that way. He’s in a small state but President Clinton I’d never heard of before he on the debates. Get Governor Johnson on that stage because he deserves to be there and he’ll be another Bill Clinton in a really good way.”
