UNR Police Say Man Lied About Robbery

RENO -- A text and e-mail message alerted students at the University of Nevada, Reno to a report a man was robbed by five men. However, after speaking with the man who reported the incident again, police now say he lied.

"Motives or reasons as to why he lied I can tell you that sometimes people get themselves into predicaments that sometimes have to resort to telling a lie to get back out of it," Commander Todd Renwick of the UNR Police Department said.

Renwick said he will seek charges of filing a false police report against the student who reported the supposed robbery.

According to the text alert, sent very early Tuesday, a man was robbed by five men at knife-point at the Manzanita Bowl. The alert specified the incident happened Thursday, but was not reported until late Monday.
