RENO, Nev. -- One motorcycle rider is dead and another is in the hospital after two separate Reno-Tahoe area crashes.
The first crash happened just before 2pm on Geiger Grade (SR 341) below the lookout. Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Edgell tells KOLO 8 News Now the motorcycle was heading downhill and tried to pass a car by crossing the double-yellow center line. The bike ended up side-swiping the car.
Emergency personnel took the rider, a 24-year-old Carson City man, to the hospital by helicopter. He later died. No one in the car, including a three-month-old baby and a four-year-old child, was hurt. It is not yet known if alcohol was a factor.
The other accident happened on State Route 50 at Logan Creek Dr., that is just north of Cave Rock on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe. The cause of the accident is unknown but the traffic lanes were shut down for a time. That rider was taken to the hospital. No word on his condition.
