RENO, Nev. (AP) - A hunter has bagged the second black bear in Nevada's third bear hunting season.
Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy says both female bears were shot in the Carson Range in Douglas County near Genoa Peak. One was taken on Tuesday, the other last Thursday.
Both were about 10 years old, weighing about 200 pounds. Neither was nursing so there are no orphaned cubs.
The season began Sept. 15 and runs to Dec. 31, or until the statewide quota of 20 bears is reached. Forty-five tags have been issued.
Nevada is home to an estimated 400 to 700 bears. Eleven were killed last year and 14 were bagged during Nevada's first bear hunting season in 2011.
There's an estimated 35,000 bears in neighboring California, where 1,700 can be taken.
