HAWTHORNE, NV - An elderly couple is behind bars, accused of growing drugs at their home with the intention of selling them.
According to Mineral County Sheriff Stewart Handte, a confidential tip led to a warrant for a home on Towe Road in Hawthorne.
Deputies say 71-year-old Leeanne Kirby and her 62-year-old husband Kenneth were growing marijuana on their property, as well as poppy plants, which are used in the production of heroin.
Both are facing felony charges including possession with intent to sell. They are also facing misdemeanor charges of drug possession and child endangerment.
Their bail has been set at $61,140 each.
