GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - A Florida prisoner who escaped after allegedly stabbing a detective with his eyeglasses has been shot and killed by law enforcement officers near Dallas.
The Nevada Department of Corrections, Feb. 16, 2013:
"Grapevine, Texas Police authorities have released information that escaped Nevada inmate Mr. Morales was shot and killed today by authorities while attempting to apprehend him. The matter is still under investigation."
The Southlake, Texas, Department of Public Safety posted on Facebook Saturday morning that Alberto Morales was shot shortly before midnight following a foot chase. Police responded to an area near Lake Grapevine in North Texas after receiving information from a local resident.
Authorities didn't immediately release any other details about what led to Morales' shooting.
The 42-year-old Morales was a convicted sex offender. He escaped Monday at a Wal-Mart store parking lot in Grapevine, a community near the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Police say he used a sharp piece from his eyeglasses to stab a Miami-Dade detective who was transferring him by car to Nevada.
