Boreal will soon be joined by other Tahoe resorts, as the 2012-2013 winter sports season picks up.
Vail Resorts has announced that Heavenly and Northstar will begin operations Wednesday, November 14th, with Kirkwood cranking up its lifts two days later on the 16th.
In addition to natural snowfall, temperatures in the region have been favorable for snowmaking, and the last few weeks, resorts have been making snow whenever possible.
The early-than-normal openings are great news for skiers and riders as they give them time to plan on making trips during the Thanksgiving holiday... a weekend not always available to those looking to make a ski or snowboarding trip.
In addition to the Vail resorts, Squaw Valley is opening early, announcing a Friday, November 16th startup, and soon, others may join it.
Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe just outside Reno won't be among them this weekend, but plans on starting lifts on Wednesday the 21st, the day before Thanksgiving.
They are waiting a few more days to continue snowmaking to the point that top to bottom skiing and riding will be available on day one.
If you favorite resort has not announced an opening date yet, keep checking its website, as soon we will see everyone in the Tahoe area up and running for the season.
