Sun Valley, NV - Pools, lakes and water parks will be seeing families ready to enjoy a little fun in the sun. The Sun Valley pool opened for the beginning of its season Friday. It has seen its ups and downs, almost closing in 2009 due to budget cuts, but thanks to community support the General Improvement District raised the funds to make repairs and keep it open. GID General Manager Darrin Price says the pool is a valuable resource for the community and that they are happy to have it open for another summer.
Opening day at the pool is a big deal for Sun Valley, drawing in anywhere from 100-200 kids. Aquatic supervisor Lauren Going says there is usually a line around the building before they open the doors.
The Sun Valley pool should be seeing plenty of visitors this summer with the Alf Sorensen and Northwest pools being shut down for maintenance. Also, the next closest pool is roughly 5 miles away in Sparks. Sun Valley pool will be open through August 10th, Wednesday-Sunday, from noon to 5 pm each day.
