Sparks Teen Accused of Strangling Sister

SPARKS, NV - The Washoe County District Attorney's Office has decided not to try a teenage boy as an adult in an act of violence against his sister.

Shortly after 10AM Monday, January 21, police were called to the 4000 block of Whispering Wind Court in Sparks. They were told of a violent fight between a brother and sister. Police say when they got there, both teens said he had strangled her at least twice, and evidence indicated the 14-year-old girl had been strangled.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested and originally booked at the Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center. Due to the nature of the charges, he was later transferred to the Washoe County Jail, charged as an adult, booked on charges of attempted murder (no bail) and domestic battery by strangulation (bail $15,000).

But after a review, an assistant DA says the case was handed to a juvenile DA, determining instead to charge the boy as a juvenile with domestic battery.
