Aloha Inn Scare Leads Sparks Police to Possible Stabbing Suspect

SPARKS, NV - Police believe they found the suspect responsible for stabbing a man in the chest near Sierra Sid's early Monday morning.

Police arrested 41-year-old Johnny McArthur at a AM/PM gas station near the Aloha Inn after reports of 2 men going floor to floor scaring guests.

Police found ex-felon McArthur armed with a knife prompting a pat down but when the officer began searching McArthur for additional weapons, he turned and charged the officer.

During the scuffle, a loaded gun fell from McArthur. With the help of responding officers, he was taken into custody.

Police suspect McArthur and another man are responsible for stabbing Anthony Tyrone Richards in the chest earlier while he walked near the Sierra Sid's truck stop in Sparks. Richards was treated at the scene but taken to Renown for stab to the chest and a cut to his left hand, both injuries are non-life threatening.

Records checks on McArthur showed he has had numerous past contacts with police in the Reno/Sparks area and has had prior felony convictions.

McArthur received minor injuries to his knees and facial area. An Officer received minor injuries to an elbow and wrist. Neither McArthur or the injured officer required treatment at the hospital.

He was booked into the Washoe County jail for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Being an Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm and for Obstructing a Police Officer. McArthur's bail was set at $23,000.00.
