Walmart officially decides against store at Legends

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - UPDATE: Walmart sent a statement late March 4, 2016:

“After serious consideration, given the existing development restrictions prohibiting Walmart from operating a pharmacy at the Legends at Sparks Marina, we are no longer planning for a Walmart store at that location. The value of a full-service pharmacy, including access to Walmart’s $4 generic prescription program, along with one-stop shopping for groceries and general merchandise is critical to our customers. We look forward to continue serving our Reno-Sparks and area customers at other nearby Walmart locations. ”

ORIGINAL STORY JANUARY 2014: The Sparks City Council has voted to uphold the Sparks Planning Commission's permit to build a Walmart at Legends.

More than 50 residents voiced their concerns Monday afternoon at a Sparks City Council meeting.

The Sparks Planning Commission approved a special use permit last November to allow an approximately-180,000-square-foot big box retailer on more than 17 acres in the northwest portion of Legends.

The Walmart would be part of a larger destination retail and entertainment center located at Lincoln Way.
