Sparks City Council Approves Budget For Next Fiscal Year

SPARKS, NV - The Sparks City Council has approved the budget for the next fiscal year.

Part of the budget consists of of $55 million in total spending for 2015, an increase of 4.7 percent from 2014, and requires no staff layoffs or service reductions. The City's workforce consists of 444 full time employees and a decrease of 30 percent from the beginning of 2007.

The budget for 2015 includes a property rate tax increase and a garbage franchise fee.

The current property tax rate is $3.61 per $100 dollars of assessed value. The new rate will increase up to four cents. These changes are expected to generate about $250,000 in additional revenue. The garbage franchise fee will increase from five to eight percent, which is expected to generate $400,000.
