RENO, Nev. (AP) - The principal of Spanish Springs High School has been named the state's best.

The Secondary School Principals Association of Nevada announced this week that Tasha Fuson took top honors this year among the state's high school leaders.

Fuson has worked as a special education teacher, dean and assistant principal in southern Nevada before coming to Reno in 2007. She served as an assistant principal at Reno High School before taking on the job at Spanish Springs High School.

Washoe County Superintendent Pedro Martinez called Fuson a "tremendous leader" and said the award was "richly deserved."

Her name will be submitted for consideration as National Principal of the Year. That award will be announced in September.
