Snow Falls in Sierra; Prompts Multiple Road Controls

Snow is beginning to fall in some parts of the Sierra while heavy winds continue to batter areas east of the Sierras, prompting various road controls.

I-80 at Castle Rock.

Peak wind gusts measured by the National Weather Service: 

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe: 71MPH (10:50 AM)

Davis Creek: 59 MPH (11:01 AM) 

Galena Creek Bridge: 76 MPH (11:03 AM)

Silver Springs: 58 MPH (12:02 PM) 







RENO,NV-- Snow showers are wrapping up across most of the area. However, a few road controls are still in effect.

As of 3:15 Saturday afternoon, Interstate 80 is open control free.

Chains are required on the Mt. Rose highway between Sky Tavern, over Mt. Rose Summit, and into Incline Village.

A high wind advisory remains in effect along Interstate 580 and Old Highway 395 from the Steamboat Springs area, through the Washoe Valley. High profile vehicles are not advised.
