Those yellow and green crates will soon be a thing of the past, and separating your recyclables won’t be a hassle anymore.

We’ve known single-stream recycling was the way of the future for the Truckee Meadows, but Friday night the City of Reno announced it will be implemented beginning the first week of November.

If you are unfamiliar with the process, you no longer have to separate all your garbage.

Instead of the yellow and green crates, you will now get another large bin with a blue top.

Anything that’s recyclable goes in there.

It will be taken to a central facility and separated for you, with even more items being recycled than just glass and plastic like newspaper, chipboard, cardboard and mix paper. .

While the program begins November seventh, it will take a while for the single-stream recycling to make its way to every neighborhood.
