Bail Half a Million for Son Accused of Killing Father

SPANISH SPRINGS, NV - Bail is set at $500,000 for a young man accused of killing his father.

Washoe County deputies responded to a home on Janere Court about 9:30PM Thursday, June 12, 2014, told about multiple shots being fired. They found 45-year-old Jeffery James Montgomery with several gunshot wounds. He died several days later.

Investigators identified the suspect in the shooting as 19-year-old Brandon Moore-Montgomery, the victim's son. After a day of pictures of him shown on local media, Moore-Montgomery walked into the Washoe County Jail the morning of Saturday, June 14, 2014 and surrendered. He was first charged with attempted murder and using a deadly weapon, but the charge has been upgraded to open murder.

Detectives have not released information about a possible motive.

Bail was set at a hearing July 3; as of that date, he is still in custody.
