RENO, NV - A robbery suspect who was killed by police outside the Peppermill Casino Sunday night has been identified.
The incident began around 5PM, August 31, 2014, at the CVS Pharmacy on Plumb and Virginia. One person was injured when a gun was fired during an attempted robbery. That person was treated at a hospital and released.
Police responded as the suspect was spotted attempting to leave that location. A short time later, multiple gunshots were reported in the area of Hubbard and South Virginia street. The suspect was shot several times, and died of his injuries at Renown. The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has identified him as 42-year-old Royal Shawn Bingaman of Nampa, Idaho.
Bingaman was wanted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Pioche, Nevada for narcotics offenses and had been living in a motel in Reno.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the shooting. Sparks police are assisting.
Information hasn't been released about how many officers were involved in the shooting, but per standard procedure, those officers are on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
