SAN ANDREAS, Calif. (AP) - Searchers using information provided
by a convicted California serial killer have recovered the remains
of a second person.
San Joaquin County sheriff's spokesman Les Garcia says specially
trained dogs led searchers to a partial human skull and bones in
Calaveras County around 11 a.m. Friday.
Authorities found another skull in the same area Thursday.
The search was prompted by tips from death row inmate Wesley
Shermantine, who was offered money from a bounty hunter to disclose burial locations of his victims. Shermantine and his childhood friend, Loren Herzog, were dubbed the "Speed Freak Killers" for a methamphetamine-fueled killing spree in the 1980s and 90s.
Searchers also are excavating a well near the San Joaquin County
town of Linden. Shermantine claims Herzog disposed of several
bodies there.
Herzog committed suicide last month.
