RENO, NV -- The CHP in Susanville confirms a suspect t being sought near Bordertown has been arrested.
Around 9:30 Tuesday night, the CHP was chasing a vehicle on Highway 395 in California. Before the vehicle reached the Nevada border, officers deployed a spike strip and disabled the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle still didn't want to give up and ran away. NHP and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office were called in to assist with a manhunt, but nobody was found.
Around 3:30 Wednesday morning, someone reported a car being stolen from the parking lot of the Bordertown Casino. Minutes later, an attentive NHP Trooper spotted the vehicle traveling south on Highway 395 near Oddie Boulevard. The Ttooper made a stop and arrested 36-year-old James McDowell.
Through several calls to local law enforcement Wednesday, it was unclear if the two cases, one ending in Bordertown, and one starting in Bordertown, were related. For clarification, KOLO 8 News Now called the CHP in Susanville.
KOLO 8 News Now was the first to tell the CHP McDowell had been arrested. It was only at that time that law enforcement realized McDowell was the suspect in both car burglary cases.
The California Highway Patrol is now in contact with the Nevada Highway Patrol about this case.
