Suspect in Shoplifting and Stabbing Attempt Arrested

RENO, Nev. -- Reno Police officers identified and arrested the man suspected of stealing merchandise from a Walmart store then threatening to stab security guards during his get-away.

Officers found 52-year-old John Arpino of Reno hiding in a downtown motel room. Inside the room, officers found evidence linking Arpino to the robbery. They arrested him for Burglary, Grand Larceny, and two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The original incident happened late Thursday afternoon at the Walmart on Vista Knoll Parkway.

Reno Police Officials say despite the fact that "there are no outstanding suspects, the case is on going and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Reno Police Department or call Secret Witness."

Reno police are looking for a man accused of stealing two laptop computers from a Reno Walmart, and trying to stab two security officers who confronted him.

Police tell us, it happened just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the store on Vista Knoll Parkway.

The security officers tried follow the shoplifter, a fight broke out, and the man pulled a out large knife, and tried to stab both security officers. When the officers backed away, he ran off.
