SPARKS, NV - Sparks police arrested a man armed with a rifle after a standoff Friday morning.

August 8th, 2014 about 3:15AM, police say they responded to reports of a disturbance in the 300 block of 3rd street. They were told a man was running around the apartment complex there with a baseball bat and yelling. Officers found the baseball bat and the man's apartment, and they say when trying to speak with him, he slammed the door on them.

Police say they walked a short distance away and heard the man began to yell loudly. They found him standing at the top of a stairway yelling to the floor below in what they call an argumentative and demeaning manner, and approached him from the rear. They report they saw him pointing a gun in the direction of the bottom story of the apartments.

When police told him to put the weapon down, police say he went back into his apartment and refused to come back out. That's when a SWAT team was called to negotiate with him, and an hour later, he walked out on his own and was arrested. The firearm was found in his apartment.

During the standoff, some residents of the complex were evacuated and put on a bus for safety.

27-year-old Kyle McClure of Sparks is charged with Obstructing with the use of a Firearm, Challenge to Fight with the use of a Firearm, and Drawing a Firearm in a Threatening Manner. He is being held on $30,500 bail.
