UPDATE 10:00 PM Sunday:

RENO, NV - According to Reno Police, the driver of a blue Hyundai Tuscon sped through a red light at North Sierra Street while exiting I-80 eastbound. They say the 40-year-old Bay Area resident was hit by a Lexus sedan at the intersection of Maple and Sierra. According to witnesses the Hyundai flipped, crashing through a barrier fence and coming to rest on the ledge. Authorities were concerned it could continue to roll back down onto the freeway.

Fire crews used a strap to temporarily secure the SUV to a fire truck for safety. The driver had to be extricated with the jaws of life. First responders performed CPR, but were unable to save the injured man.

The driver's two young boys, ages 4 and 7, were also in the car. Both escaped with only minor injuries. Police say they were secured in child safety seats, which probably saved their lives. The three people in the lexus, who are all in their twenties, also receive minor injuries.
