LAS VEGAS (AP) - A report released Monday shows patients at Nevada's two Veterans Affairs hospitals did not escape the long wait times reported at veterans' facilities around the country.
The Veterans Affairs Department audit shows thousands of patients waited 30 days or more for care at the VA Medical Centers in Reno and North Las Vegas.
More than 2,234 patients have been waiting 90 days or more for medical appointments at the Las Vegas facility. Another 224 waited more than 90 days for care in Reno.
The average wait time for new patients is about 50 days in Las Vegas and 53 days in Reno.
The report, which looked at 731 VA facilities around the country, is the first nationwide look at the VA system after reports of patients dying while awaiting appointments at the Phoenix VA center.
