SPARKS, Nev. -- A team effort by both Sparks and Reno officers landed a bank robbery suspect in custody.
The robbery happened just after 9am Saturday at the Bank of America branch on Oddie Boulevard between El Rancho and Silverada, just east of the 395/580 freeway.
A Sparks Police spokesman says a man entered the bank and handed a note to the teller. The note reportedly read, "This is a robbery. Hand me your money and no one will get hurt." Once the man had the money, he left and took the note with him. He was wearing a red hat, gray sweat shirt, and blue running shorts.
A man suspected to be the robber was quickly spotted in a vehicle on Sullivan at Byrd Drive. A Sparks Police Officer made a traffic stop at Sullivan and Wedekind and the suspect was arrested. He is identified as 36-year old Jason Schmidt of Sun Valley. Local FBI agents were called to conduct the suspect interview.
Schmidt's car was taken as evidence. An undisclosed amount of money was recovered from the car.
