Two men are behind bars, and a Reno Police officer is recovering from injuries after an attempted robbery at the Valero gas station at 1000 West 2nd Street in Reno Tuesday night.

Reno police say it happened around 8 p.m. when a man walked into the store with his face covered. He indicated that he had a gun and demanded all of the money in the register.
He and the clerk started to argue.

When the suspect didn't show that he actually had a gun, the clerk refused to give him money. The suspect ran from the store, and the clerk chased him. Three Reno Police officers were nearby, and were flagged down by the clerk.

One of the officers chased the suspect on foot to a waiting car in the 100 block of Keystone. When the suspect saw the officer, he continued running to the area of Boyd Place and First Street where another officer found him. The suspect and that officer struggled when the suspect resisted arrest.

Officers found another man hiding in the car who refused to come out, despite repeated demands from the officers to do so. He was eventually contacted at the car and had to be physically removed.

Police are identifying the man in the store as 28 year old Garrett Jay Churchill. He was charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, Burglary, Battery on a Police Officer, two counts of Obstructing and Resisting, Possession of Heroin, and an unrelated no bail warrant.

Police are naming the man in the car as 23 year old Eugenio Ortega.
