Man Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in Downtown Reno; Victim ID'd

Reno police have arrested 36-year-old Daniel Hill, who is charged with open murder. He was arrested early Friday on a parole violation warrant, but after questioning, police linked him to the murder and to the armed robbery of a gas station on February 23 near 2nd Street and Keystone Avenue.

Police say this appears to be a random act of violence, since Hill had apparently never met the victim, and robbery did not appear to be a motive.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Lori Hart of Reno.

RENO, NV - Reno police have yet to release the name of the woman who was killed after she was stabbed on Wednesday night right outside of the Sands casino.

Firefighters washed blood off of the parking lot just outside the Sands casino. It's where a woman was stabbed. Witnesses saw her stumbling around and called police.

"It happened sometime between 11:10pm and 11:15pm right here behind us in this intersection," said Lt. Mohammad Rafaqat with the Reno Police Department.

For 12 hours, Reno police kept watch over that intersection. They blocked it off as they tried to collect every bit of evidence. They have not yet released the woman's name. Officers are only saying she was a white adult.

"Obviously, she was the victim of a violent act. We don't have any particular information to give out on the suspect at this point," said Lt. Rafaqat.

Police won't say if they think it was a random crime or if the woman may have known her attacker. But seeing all of the cops and crime tape put people who live in the area on high alert. Like Tor Simmons, who says he's fearful for his family and will keep a closer watch on his wife.

"She walks around out here by herself sometimes to go get something to eat or what have you. And that's not good. I need to go tell her. I've got to start being with her all the time," said Simmons.

Reno police are asking anyone who may have seen anything around 11pm on Wednesday night to give them a call.
