RENO, Nev.- Reno police arrested a man for a recent string of home burglaries, in most cases, while the homeowners sleep.

Around 5:30 a.m., Mon., RPD arrested Anthony Louis Halnan for driving a vehicle reported stolen in the Sky Mountain Drive area. He is believed to be involved in a recent rash of hot prowl burglaries in the northwest portion of Reno.

The Reno Police Department has seen a recent pattern of hot prowl burglaries in the area of north Reno, just west of Virginia Street, extending out towards Keystone Ave. There has been at least six reported burglaries, where the victims were home and asleep, dating back to September 24.

The suspect would then flee the area in the victim's vehicle, often leaving the vehicle a short distance away, taking items left inside. In no reported incidents did the suspect ever disturb the victims, or target a house based on age or gender of the occupants.

Halnan was cooperative and agreed to an interview. He admitted to at least one of the hot prowl burglaries, and one other burglary reported at the Local Pub and Sub in the same area. The investigation is ongoing, and other charges are pending.

Arrested: Halnan, Anthony Louis 12-03-80.

Charges: Burglary (2 counts)

The public is reminded to ensure your home and garage are locked and closed at night, to include windows and dog doors. It is common that these types of criminals will only target unlocked doors and windows to avoid any noise. It is also recommended that you store valuable items, phones, Purses, laptops, etc.... out of view, if an intruder does enter the home. These small steps can help prevent you from being a victim of this type of home invasion.
