RENO, Nev. According to one travel website, finding a great place to get away for the winter may be closer than you think.
Livability.com recently named Reno as one of the Top 10 Best Winter Vacation Destinations. The website highlights more than 500 of America's best places to live and vist.
For this Top 10 list, they looked at cities with annual snow falls averaging about two feet, making outdoor winter activities like snowshoeing and skiing fun and beautiful. The website points out what many locals already know, Reno's close location to many ski resorts makes it a great place to stay.
"To be able to stay in Reno, get to Mount Rose easily, and offer their families that White Christmas I think is a big draw," Kayla Anderson, PR and web manager for Mount Rose Ski Resort said.
But the website also looked for cities with unique nightlives. Livability.com pointed to Reno's many local restaurants like SoDo and Campo, as well as familiy entertainment like the Discovery Museum and FunQuest at the Grand Sierra as reasons to bring the family to the Biggest Little City.
But some tourists don't agree with the distinction.
"Outdoor activities, yeah I hear they're great," Jessica Mussko from South Carolina said. "But outside of that I don't see much else to do besides gamble, which if that's your thing great but I don't see that as a family activity. So vacationing in Reno for the winter seems a bit odd."
Reno ranked fifth on Livability.com's list. The top honor went to Anchorage, Alaska.
