CAMP LEJEUNE, NC-- A United States Marine from Reno died in a motorcycle accident on Friday. Lance Corporal Sean R. McMillin was riding in Maryville, Tennessee when he lost control of his motorcycle. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
McMillin joined the Marine Corps in June of 2009. He was most recently assigned to the "Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 266 Reinforced, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, as part of a detachment from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 366."
During his service, McMillin earned a number of recognitions, including "the Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and [the] National Defense Medal." He finished a tour in Afghanistan in February of this year.
Lt. Col. Chris Boniface, commanding officer of the VMM-266 Reinforced said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Lance Cpl. McMillin's family and friends. Losing a Marine is always especially difficult, but losing a fantastic Marine like Lance Cpl. Sean McMillin is simply tragic for the VMM-266 family. He will be sorely missed.”
Lance Corporal Sean R. McMillin was 24 years old.
