RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Reno attorney who helped arrange a marriage for his girlfriend so she could remain in the United States has been sentenced to three years of probation and fined $3,000.

Sixty-three-year-old Robert J. Fry pleaded guilty in April to one count of harboring an alien. He was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks.

Fry and Nelia Bayani were indicted in May 2011. According to the indictment, Bayani is a citizen of the Philippines and was in a romantic relationship with Fry. The indictment says Bayani with Fry's assistance entered into a fraudulent marriage with an American citizen so she could remain in the U.S. after overstaying her visitor's visa.

Bayani also pleaded guilty in the case and was sentenced to five years of probation.
