Director of Communications and Community Engagement said the entries were submitted on the social network Pintrest. She said the contest helps highlight aspects of Reno those who don't live in the town might be unfamiliar with.

Aaron Loar took a photo of lightning over downtown, which won the people's choice award.

"It didn't last long it lasted only about 20 minutes or so and I called my friend who I had been out shooting with before and by the time he got there it was over," he said.

Loar and another person won Nevada football tickets. The winners will also receive prints of their entries at a Reno City Council meeting, according to the City.
